The 146 Professional includes pilot callouts and cabin announcements. These will be automatically triggered at the appropriate times based on various events such as altitude, airspeed and aircraft state. Some announcements can also be triggered manually via the EFB Aircraft page.

The announcements are enabled by default but can be disabled by unticking the CABIN ANNOUNCEMENTS and PILOT CALLOUTS options in the Configuration Menu on the EFB Aircraft page.

The following sections include the conditions which must be met at each stage of flight in order for the announcements/callouts to trigger:

Take-off phase:

- Aircraft is on the ground

- Throttle levers set to greater than 40%

- Strobe lights switched on

- Landing lights switched on

  • "TMS set to XX (if on)" - Throttle levers set to greater than 40%
  • "Power set, flex/N1 achieved" - Engines achieved TMS target value
  • "Speed alive, both sides" - Airspeed above 60 knots
  • "80 knots, cross-checked" - Airspeed passing 80 knots
  • "V1" - Airspeed passing V1 speed (as shown on speed card)
  • "Rotate" - Airspeed passing VR speed (as shown on speed card)
  • "V2" - Airspeed passing V2 speed (as shown on speed card)

Climb Phase:

- Gear up

- Above 50ft AGL

- Vertical speed greater than 500ft/min

  • "Positive rate of climb, gear up"
  • "V2+10, safe height speed, flap 18" - Above 800ft AGL, flaps set to greater than 18 degrees,
  • "VFTO, safe height speed, flaps up" - Above 800ft AGL, flaps set to greater than 0 degrees, ASI reading greater than VFTO speed (as shown on speed card)

 Cruise Phase:

- Flaps retracted

- Aircraft in level flight

Approach Phase:

- Aircraft not on ground
- Previously in the cruise phase
- Airspeed is less than 250 KIAS
- Radio height is less than or equal to 6000ft
- Vertical speed is less than or equal to -500ft/min OR localiser armed OR localiser captured OR glideslope armed OR glideslope captured OR seats for landing callout has been triggered

  • "Localiser armed" - ILS tuned, V/L mode armed
  • "Localiser captured" - ILS tuned, V/L mode active
  • "Glideslope armed" - ILS tuned, GSL mode armed
  • "Glideslope alive, one dot to go" - ILS tuned, GSL mode armed, glideslope indicating 1 dot above
  • "Glideslope captured" - ILS tuned, GSL mode active
  • "Established on ILS" - ILS tuned, V/L and GSL modes active
  • "Speed checked below 205, select gear down" - Flaps 18 selected, appropriate airspeed based on weight
  • "Speed checked below 205, flap 18" - Flaps 0 selected, appropriate airspeed based on weight
  • "Speed checked below 180, flap 24" - Flaps 18 selected, appropriate airspeed based on weight
  • "Speed checked below 145, flap 33" - Flaps 24 or 30 selected, appropriate airspeed based on weight

Landing Phase:

  • "Ground idle" - aircraft on ground
  • "Yellow and green spoilers" - aircraft on ground, yellow and green spoilers deployed
  • "Brake pressure seen" - aircraft on ground, brakes applied
  • "80 knots" - aircraft on ground, airspeed decelerating through 80 knots
  • "60 knots" - aircraft on ground, airspeed decelerating through 60 knots

Please note that each phase is reliant on the previous phase being complete first. It is very hard to make triggers that cover every eventuality, so the system can get confused if non-normal procedures are followed. For example, you could confuse the callouts by levelling off below 6000ft AGL in the climb, then descending for a period at less than 250 KIAS before resuming a climb to the cruise. That would be quite an unusual flight pattern, though!

The callouts will be reset at the end of a flight when the aircraft is on the ground, and ground speed is less than 30 knots.

Cabin Announcements

Flight crew to cabin crew:

  • "Cabin crew, please take your seats for takeoff." (triggered by pressing CAB CALL button on overhead panel)
  • "Cabin crew, please take your seats for landing." (triggered by pressing CAB CALL button on overhead panel)

Cabin crew to flight crew:

  • "Cabin secure." (will trigger automatically 5-8 minutes after the doors are closed, simulating the time it takes for a safety briefing and seat belt check).

Cabin crew to passengers:

  • "Ladies and gentleman, the cabin crew have been released to begin their service, but please note that the seatbelt signs are still on." (triggered by pressing CAB CALL button on overhead panel)
  • "Ladies and gentleman, the seatbelt signs have been switched off. You are free to move about the cabin."
  • "Ladies and gentleman, the seatbelt signs have been switched on. Please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts."

Cabin crew to cabin crew:

  • "Cabin crew, doors to manual and cross-check."
  • "Cabin crew, arm doors and cross-check."
