The flaps on the 146 are powerful and require the pilot to actively use the pitch trim to compensate for the change in pitching moment from the flaps as they move. This effect is most pronounced when moving the flaps between 0 and 18 degrees. The -300 variant incorporates an automatic system that applies pitch trim as the flaps are moved, which reduces (but does not eliminate) the pilot's workload.
