The 146 has a Flap Trim Compensation (FTC) system fitted to the 146-300 variant that decreases the elevator trim by approximately 1 unit nose down when the flaps are extended from 0 to 18 degrees, and increases the trim (nose up) by the same amount when retracting from 18 to 0 degrees.
The FTC is designed to reduce the control inputs required to counteract the pitch effect as the flaps are moving between the 0 and 18 degree positions. The system is inhibited when the aircraft is on the ground or when the autopilot is engaged.
The 146-100 and 146-200 variants are not fitted with an FTC system, requiring the pilot to maintain full control of the aircraft's pitch throughout flap extension/retraction.
