Latest Update: 2025/05/23

The below log shows all updates for this product since release:

Update 042225 (SU2 Official) B9243 (1.0.9243.18411)

  • Updated for MSFS2024 SU2 (1.4.13.0 or later) which uses some new integration methods for FS2024 (this is now only compatible with SU2 or later when using FS2024)
  • Adjusted French language units handling to correct an issue in some units modes (hybrid, for example) with MSFS2024 SU2 wind layer speeds, where they are shown as knots but handled as m/s – was causing about double the realized winds in-sim – Now, the wind speed will correctly be depicted in sim, but will show as half the actual speed when viewed in the internal weather UI
  • Fixed units issue in some cases that would cause too much precipitation and lower visibility than intended (both FS2020 and FS2024)
  • Adjusted precipitation for much lower rates overall (matching more realistic values according to typical categorization of light, moderate, heavy) – Increases visibility during lower precip levels, but rain may be hard to see in external camera modes

Update 011325 (SU2 Beta) B9144 (1.0.9144.20724)

  • Added new MSFS toolbar functionality with ASFS icon, and ASFS now operates like all other toolbar add-ons (and must be enabled in the toolbar configuration menu)
  • Added ASFS toolbar icon click-to-open ASFS application functionality (works in both MSFS2020/2024)
  • Added new option: Snow ground cover threshold temperature, sets the temp at which ground snow is canceled (when at or above this temp), when ground snow is enabled (using NOAA downloads)
  • Added new “Activate” button in Weather Configuration screen for historical time, replacing earlier automatic activation process after 5 seconds
  • Added new feature/option: Enable direct wind control (Simulator depiction options) – Enables control of MSFS aloft wind layers to match ASFS-computed ambient winds, in attempts for better direct control and elimination of MSFS-related wind shifts – default ON
  • Added new feature/option: Cloud density adjustment slider (Simulator depiction options) – Allows adjustment of depicted cloud density, increase for higher detail and puff (at the expense of graininess and patterning), reduce for lower detail and softness – default 50
  • Added new feature/option: Wind speed limiter (Simulator depiction options) – Limits maximum winds set by ASFS to prevent potential wind depiction issues found in recent MSFS builds – use with caution – default 148
  • Adjusted handling of aloft wind data by limiting max speeds in source data to match Wind speed limiter option, for accurate flight planning given any limiting applied
  • Changed conditions screen Sky Conditions text from “showers” to “rain” when precip is light (to avoid confusion with technical definition of rain showers from convective clouds)
  • Decreased general cloud transition smoothing rate when building by approximately 20%
  • Increased wind transition speed approximately 15%
  • Turbulence Improvements:
    - Adjusted effect of “turbulence rotation effect preference” (wind options) to allow more translational turb optionally when using left-most slider options, and about 15% additional translational vs. rotational effects by default (at 50%)
    - Fixed unexpected reduction of turbulence (by one level) when flying over water
    - Added draft-based additive turbulence
    - Adjusted random light chop turbulence percentage effect at max and min settings for more expected results (should be similar at default 25%)
    - Added new wind option: Reduce turbulence near surface, which gradually reduces turbulence below 3000ft AGL, default off
  • Reduced density of stratus and cumulus layers, especially when overcast, up to approximately 20%, to reduce graininess and/or row patterns in some cases, based on recent MSFS2020/2024 cloud depiction changes observed
  • Fixed potential upside-down appearing cloud layer depiction with MSFS2024 when coverage = 0 (clear)
  • Changed script connection warning icon to show after 2 minutes of flight running status instead of 1 (to account for long loading times in some cases)
  • Documentation updated, including improved MSFS configuration notes including toolbar enabling/disabling and ASFS button usage

Update 121524 (SU1) B9115 (1.0.9115.31736) - 2024/12/23

- New wind smoothing processes in weather control script for smoother vectorized wind conditions changes targeting approximately 2 kt/deg/sec (depiction smoothing rate setting has a limited effect)

Update 121424 (SU1) B9114 (1.0.9114.40964)

- Disabled all multiple IP network functionality for weather control script which is suspected to be causing issues for some users with multiple IP addresses/VPNs
NOTE: This does not change any functionality, the local IPv4 address 127.0.0.1 is always used

- Various other attempted fixes for some users having weather control script communication issues

- Defaulted force of 127.0.0.1 local IP address for ASFS comms

- Fixed issue with snow not depicting in some cases

- Added additional PMDG export auto detection paths

- Fixed issue with Store 2024 community path handling that could result in invalid script installation in this configuration (and inability to depict weather)

Update 120624 (SU1) B9106 (1.0.9106.22861) - 2024/12/12

- Fixed weather control script bug that could cause script and depiction failure for users using METERS for altimeter units setting

Update 120324 (SU1 Beta 3) B9103 (v1.0.9103.19141)

- Fixed units issue with MSFS2024 that could cause improper pressure and other settings in some languages/units settings

- Attempted fix for some multi-network-adapter users where script may not function correctly and weather may not depict in sim

- Added weather control script detection and warning/log messages as well as warning indicator (to right of connection status in main screen) if script not found running

- Attempted fix for occasional lack of weather depiction in some cases and additional logging to troubleshoot any remaining cases

Update 112424 (SU1 Beta 2) B9094 (1.0.9094.40127)

- New experimental redesigned cloud smoothing processes:

  • Generally reduced full layer clearing instances during transitions for a better and more full cloud coverage experience
  • Removed transition strategy of clearing layers when a large altitude transition was required
  • Fixed issue where some layers could become mis-ordered/corrupted
  • NOTE: Due to removal of "clearing layers for large altitude changes strategy", layers will occasionally transition altitudes significantly, and this can cause pulsing (or breathing effect) of apparent coverage due to MSFS cloud patterning logic during these large altitude changes - Reduce smoothing rate to make this effect less visible
  • NOTE: This is for preliminary testing of this new experimental smoothing processes and may be problematic in certain conditions or situations

- Fixed issue where METAR-specified cloud layers at or above 24000ft would cause cloud layer corruption and potential low/below-ground layers

- Increased visual depicted coverage of very thin layers as specified in METAR for more expected results

- Removed SayIntentions.AI weather updated skipped messages from log

- General performance and stability improvements

Update 112024 - (SU1 Beta) B9090 (1.0.9090.40431)

- Added MSFS2024 compatibility – ASFS is now dual MSFS2020/2024 compatible and will install for any/all installations of 2020/2024 (Store, Steam or CD) as found (AS_FSConnectorInstall.exe, or a new ASFS installation must be run after MSFS2024 installation in order to install on MSFS2024 or any new MSFS 2020/2024 installation)

- Adjusted cirrus generation to prevent too high coverage and too many cirrus layers in some cases (was also possibly causing reduced performance)

- Slight reduction in general cirrus generation (approximately 10%)

- Increased cloud thickness minimum when precip exists to prevent precipitating cloud layers from being too thin in some cases

- Increased surface attenuation of turbulence and adjusted high altitude threshold to 250ft AGL (was 100ft AGL) for less overall turbulence near ground especially during flare/landing

- Reduced minimum Download interval (option) to 10 (vs. 15) minutes for even quicker updates if desired

- Changed default Download interval to 15 (vs. 30) minutes for quicker default updates

- Added Force DataNet downloads for live/recent weather option - When enabled, HiFi DataNet downloads are used instead of NOAA for live and historical weather (within 10 days) - Can provide quicker updates including 30 minute interval updates, but does not include snow depth data

- Docs updated

- Additional attempted fixes for potential thunderstorm clouds not depicting properly after departure in some cases

- Rework of cloud transition smoothing/synthesis processes regarding thunderstorms to fix occasional thunderstorm depictions and missing/too small CB clouds

- Fixed issue with weather depiction when a duplicate Active Sky preset existed (by user manually copying, add-ons misbehaving or other unexpected duplication of presets)

- Increased coverage of certain thunderstorm scene cloud layers to reduce lightning effect cloud jumping anomalies in certain Anti-Aliasing modes/levels

- General tuning of thunderstorm depictions

- Fixed issue host/port updates from default not properly reflecting in script, causing potential failure to update issues when localhost IP/hostname changed or port option changes were made by user

- Fixed issue with IPv4 disabled for "localhost" host name, causing listener/web errors and failure to depict weather issues in some cases

- Adjusted uninstall process for AS FS Connector to remove any Active Sky FS weather preset files accordingly on uninstall

- Fixed issue with fog layer generation related to previous tstorm depiction fixes

- Reduced SayIntentions.AI status message frequency

June 25, 2024 - B8942 (v1.0.8942.22851) - 2024/07/16
- New Active Sky FS Weather Preset name/control added for enhanced compatibility with SimFX and any other add-on that dynamically controls presets while running, which was previously interfering with ASFS weather control
- Adjusted temperature handling
- Improved depicted temperature horizontal and vertical interpolation (some small variance from conditions layer temperature is expected due to ambient interpolation processes)
- Fixed issue where temperatures could be ~10.0C too hot above FL360 in some cases

NOTE: A new Active Sky FS Weather Preset will be added and selected / shown when in preset mode, instead of the previous "Clear Skies" preset.  Clear skies (regardless of preset index/order) will be chosen when in preset mode and ASFS application is closed.
